CAMPANIA TEATRO FESTIVAL ITALIA

category: spettacolo dal vivo
edition: 2010

The Campania Teatro Festival Italia, a collaboration between the Fondazione Campania dei Festival and the San Carlo Theater of Naples, debuted in 2010. The agreement signed the previous year had already inspired the launch of Festival d’Oltremare at the Arena Flegrea, whose twelve-day program of shows attracted more than twenty thousand spectators.

In 2010 the summer shows took place in several venues in Naples, and in the many archaeological sites of Campania. Thanks to the participation of Leuciana Festival and Paestum Festival, and the activities carried out by the Soprintendenza per i beni archeologici di Napoli e Pompei (the Superintendency of Archeology for Naples and Pompeii), the various performances of the Campania Teatro Festival Italia took place across the whole of the region, often staged in important archaeological sites.

The program featured several projects, including opera performances, Beethoven concerts, the Neapolitan art of the 18th century, Chilean music, and two dance shows: Emma Cianchi’s “Il Caos del Cinque” [The Chaos of Five], that used mathematical and philosophical notions to showcase the relation between mathematics and the body, and “Le Sacre du Printemps,” created by Ismael Ivo. The Brazilian choreographer worked with thirteen Neapolitan dancers, leading them in a number of activities that comprised meetings, rehearsals, readings, and workshops that explored the relationship between mythology, ritual, and contemporary dance to develop a live performance that combined new and classical trends.
