DRAMMA ANTICO ALLE TERME DI BAIA
category: live performance
edition: 2017
“Dramma Antico alle Terme di Baia” [Ancient Drama at the Baths of Baia] was an event realized by Fondazione Campania dei Festival and based on a collaboration between MIBACT – Parco Archeologico dei Campi Flegrei (the Flegrean Fields Archaeological Park), and INDA – Istituto Nazionale del Dramma Antico (the National School for Ancient Drama), with the financial support of Naples’ Chamber of Commerce and the patronage of the Municipality of Bacoli. The event took place from the 10th through to the 8th of July, 2017. It featured an engaging choice of theatrical shows that celebrated ancient authors, in the archaeological sites of the Flegrean town of Bacoli. The event was endorsed by the Regione and the Fondazione. It showed that the value of the territory’s rich cultural heritage can be enhanced through knowledge, cultural promotion, and the support of theatre activities. The natural and archaeological beauties of Baia, represented by the Baths, the Castle that is home to the Flegrean Fields Archaeological Museum, and the Underwater Park, which already made up a unique and charming context, became the ideal scene to bring to the stage five works by great Greek and Roman authors.
The program included ‘Storie dall’Odissea” [Stories from the Odyssey] a serialized show based on Homer’s tale by Giovanna Bozzolo, starring the same Bozzolo with Eva Cantarella, Aeschylus’ “Seven against Thebes,” directed by Marco Baliani, Euripides’ “Bacchae,” directed by Carlo Boso, Moni Ovadia’s concert-show “La Cantata della grecità – l’età dei miti senza età” [The Song of Greekness – The ageless age of the myths], and Seneca’s “Phaedra,” directed by Carlo Cerciello.
