TOTÒ: L’ARTE, L’UMANITÀ
category: live performance
With “Totò: l’arte e l’umanità,” [Totò: art and humanity] the Fondazione Campania dei Festival honored the actor who was a symbol of the comedy show genre from Italy. Fifty years after his death, he is still an icon of Italian theatre and cinema.
The program ran from April through August 2018, and included shows, concerts, installations, film set re-enactments (set up in the main Italian cities), and an international conference held at Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples.
“Totò, si rigira!,” realized in succession in Rome, Milan, and Naples by Teatri Uniti, proposed the re-enactment of a number of film sets and site-specific scenes from Totò’s movies. The show “Il nostro Totò” by Rai Com, made in collaboration with Rai’s CPTV in Naples and broadcast on Rai 2, starred famous representatives of Italian culture, cinema, and theatre.
The rich program of events created with Fondazione di Comunità San Gennaro engaged almost the whole of the Rione Sanità neighborhood of Napoli. It included the inauguration of Giuseppe Desiato’s installation “Monolite.”
The celebration of Totò continued across theaters and squares with “Totò che tragedia!,” a recital created and interpreted by the Virtuosi di San Martino, and “La Sinfonia di Totò,” a musical fantasy, created and orchestrated by Federico Odling, starring Angela Luce and Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti. The international conference “Diagonale Totò” organized by Lucio D’Alessandro.
