Ivan Gentile

Ivan Gentile graduated in Medicine in 1996 at the “Seconda Università di Napoli” with a grade of 110/110 cum laude. From February 1999 to June 1999 he was guest fellow at the Institute of Pathology in Cologne (Germany). In 2000, he specialized in infectious diseases at the University of Naples “Federico II” with maximum marks (70/70 cum laude).   From January 2001 to November 2007 he served as medical doctor at the Department of Infectious Diseases, University of Naples “Federico II”. He was appointed Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Naples “Federico II” in the academic year 2011/2012. He was appointed Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases of the University of Naples “Federico II” in the academic year 2017/2018. In December 2020 he was appointed Full Professor of Infectious Diseases at University of Naples Federico II. Since 23rd January 2020, He is chief of Infectious Disease ward at AOU Federico II Naples. He conceived, carried out and participated in several clinical studies, including RCTs. He is author of 188 articles published in peer-reviewed journals with an overall Impact factor of over 300. The total number of citations is 2778 with a H-index of 31 (source: Scopus). He is also author of 5 book chapters and Editor of 2 scientific books.   He is Associate Editor for BMC Infectious Diseases. He is member of Editorial board of “Reviews on Recent Clinical Trials”, “Journal of Molecular & Genetic Medicine”, “Journal of Research and Development”, “International Journal of Microbiology & Advanced Immunology (IJMAI)”, “Global Journal of Medical and Clinical Case Reports”; “Case Report in Hepatology”. He has served as Guest Referee for such journals as Lancet Infectious Diseases, Gut, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Liver International, Journal of Infection, Drug Design, Development and Therapy, Journal of Translational Medicine, Expert Review of Anti-Infective Therapy, Expert Opinion On Drug Metabolism & Toxicology, Hepatology International, World Journal of Gastroenterology.   He has also acted as a reviewer for the funding of research projects for the UK Medical Research Council in 2014, for the Dutch Health Care Research Organization in 2015, and for the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia in relation to the 26th TV3 Marathon on Infectious Diseases in 2018.   In 2013, 2015 and 2016 he received funding within the framework of the “Fellowship Program” as the principal investigator of projects on viral hepatitis.

In 2020 he received funding within PON “Regione Campania” as the Principal Investigator of a project on COVID-19.
