NAPOLI TEATRO FESTIVAL ITALIA

category: live performance
edition: since 2007
frequency: yearly

Napoli Teatro Festival Italia is an annual international theatre festival that takes place in Naples during June and July.

The Festival debuted in 2007, after winning a tender issued by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities, and Tourism to launch an event that could compare with the consolidated European models of Edinburgh and Avignon.

Now in its 13th year, the Festival – which benefits from the support of Regione Campania and is organized by Fondazione Campania dei Festival – produces shows, promotes the art of playwriting, and showcases Neapolitan artists, sites, and competences.

After Renato Quaglia, Luca De Fusco, and Franco Dragone, in 2017 the artistic direction of the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia went to Ruggero Cappuccio. The writer/actor/director launched a multidisciplinary artistic project that consisted of eleven sections, a program that is open to innovative activities, including the Observatory and performing arts workshops, which cover the companies’ production costs and give space and visibility to young and mature participants.

The vision inspiring the collaboration is to unify diverse and distinct arts under an interdisciplinary umbrella. Mimmo Paladino, who has been responsible of the Festival’s visual identity since 2017, turned its catalogues and promotional materials into authentic works of art. In order to promote itself internationally as an institution of cultural and social development, the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia encourages public participation via an accessible pricing policy. Ticket prices range from 8 euros, to 5 euros for under-30 and free of charge for audiences.
