From 1st through to 7th September 2012 Naples hosted the sixth session of the World Urban Forum, entitled “The Urban Future.”

The World Urban Forum is an international conference created by UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme based in Nairobi that analyzes and monitors phenomena of rapid urbanization and their impact on communities and economies. The Forum is held biennially in a different city and attracts a large number of experts from all over the world.

The Forum probes the effects of demographic growth in urban contexts, and develops new ways and practices to improve quality of life, intended as economic wellbeing and personal self-fulfillment achieved through processes of sustainable urbanization.

The sixth session of the World Urban Forum took place at Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples. It was organized by UN-Habitat, the Italian Government, the Municipality of Naples, and Regione Campania through the Fondazione Campania dei Festival.

The Italian Pavilion, produced by the Fondazione Campania dei Festival, displayed a small scale reproduction of Naples’ net-like urban pattern. The exhibition materials were handed to the Institutions that took part in the project: Regione Campania, Provincia di Napoli, Municipality of Napoli, Naples’ Chamber of Commerce and the University.
