ENRICO CARUSO 1921 - 2021: THE VOICE, THE MYTH
One hundred years after his death (August 2, 1921), Regione Campania has organized, starting on 18th of July and ending on December 31th, a cultural program that includes concerts, readings, exhibitions and other events with the participation of nationally and international renowned artists set in symbolic places linked to the artist's life in order to celebrate one of the greatest tenors of all time.
There are two initiatives in which Fondazione Campania dei Festival participates in the project together with Film Commission Regione Campania: the screening of two dedicated documentaries and an exhibition dedicated to the great tenor.

The exhibition focuses on the figure of Enrico Caruso as the first modern media star and as a representative of Italian emigration who was able to preserve and innovate the traditions of the show, with a significant impact on American media.
The project develops the themes of Caruso's media intelligence and the Italian contribution to American entertainment culture, intertwining them, underlining Italian (and Neapolitan) characteristics of the tenor's role in the development of different aspects of the modern entertainment industry, from industry record company to the star system, in interaction with the artists of the Italian emigrant theater.
The exhibition offers a "narrative" path on Caruso and his career, historically precise, intermedial and lively - capable of being "popular", full of discoveries, and a warm fascination for the character.
The documentation of the historical-theoretical path consists of about two hundred and fifty photographic images, coming from the archives of Metropolitan Opera Archive in New York and from the Caruso Collection at Peabody Institute (Johns Hopkins) in Baltimore, usable both as prints and within the audiovisual; films, other period audiovisual material and newsreels from American archives and Setti fund of Fondazione Ansaldo; audio recordings of Caruso's record production.
As part of the exhibition, it will be possible to watch the documentary Enrico Caruso: The Greatest Singer in the World, directed by Giuliana Muscio. There will be three screenings of the documentary: 12.00, 16.00 and 18.00.
THE GUIDE OF THE EXHIBITION
A guide to the exhibition was also created, which traces testimonies of the artistic and personal life of the tenor, through public and private photos, posters, as well as drawings and caricatures, which testifies Caruso's multifaceted artistic ability. A valuable work, edited by Giuliana Muscio, with the musical advice of Simona Frasca, published by the publishing house "ad est dell’equatore", available at MANN bookshop at a cost of 12 euros.
