Anis Hamdoun | Università degli Studi di Napoli L’Orientale

Cantine del Monastero delle Trentatrè – Napoli

THE PROJECTS
Target groups: students of the University of Naples L’Orientale

The project – says Anis Hamdoun – will tell the story of all the talents and brains that had to leave their souths just to be or not to be! “ The future for us, in the south, is always somewhere else. We are from here but need to go there to be us. There, is any other place, most importantly not here. If we stay here, we will not reach our horizons; if we leave to the There, we could see our potentials, but we will not be here where home is.”

The project is coordinated by Monica Ruocco, professor of Arabic Language and Literature at the University of Naples L’Orientale

THE CONTEXT
University of Naples L’Orientale

As local partner of the Quartieri di Vita project in the 2023 edition, L’Orientale University seals its international mission – with a focus on the study of world cultures, languages, and knowledge – of welcoming artists within the academic context and opening new horizons of learning through the development of creative residencies, in collaboration with the Fondazione Campania dei Festival. Following an agreement signed in 2019 with its Department of “Asia, Africa and Mediterranean”, the Fondazione has developed several seminar and conference projects involving teachers, researchers, and students. With the workshop directed by Anis Hamdoun, the students have the opportunity to test themselves by experiencing a practical approach to performative subjects.

«Through the confrontation between researchers and artists on contemporary issues, these activities, – says Professor Monica Ruocco – are aimed at transforming the realities of our societies by giving space above all to the demands of the new generations. A reflection on issues such as identity, multiple and moving identities, migration and multiculturalism aim to give a new value to research and dissemination using theatre performance as a useful tool».
