A conference dedicated to Calvino’s birth centenary

One day, among the pages of a book set in the 18th century, the unusual decision of a young boy named Cosimo Piovasco di Rondò comes to light. After a family quarrel, he decides to spend his entire life in the foliage of the trees. The story of Cosimo, known also as as The Baron in the Trees, is the tale of someone wanting to explore different worlds in order to escape social restrictions and choose his own freedom.

The story of Italo Calvino’s fantastic novel, whose birth centenary falls this year, perfectly embodies the spirit of the 2023 – edition of the Quartieri di Vita project, as it provides a profound perspective on the search for meaning in human life, relationships in the community, and the shaping of your own
personal identity.

In this project, the concept of peripherical areas and the diversity of human experiences located there create – like – Cosimo’s wood – another world from which to begin a journey towards involving the local community in a collaborative creative process, by encouraging active participation and fellowship through the language of theatre itself.

The whole community of Quartieri di Vita take part to the conference dedicated to Italo Calvino, involving the artists, the target groups, and the partners who joined the 2023 edition.
